JA’s Waltz for String Orchestra

JA’s Waltz is a simplistic work which needs to remain light and articulate. The main melodic idea is shared around most of the instruments and the counter melody is in the Cello 1 line.

This work has extended parts for Violin 3 and Cello 2 which primarily covers the double bass, pizzicato line.

Some of the lines are syncopated, just slightly off the beat and these patterns are often in rhythmic unison between Violins 2 and 3. It’s really important to keep them together, playing as tight as possible.

The Cello 1 line often has the contrasting legato phrasing. These need to be played full and long to contrast with the melodic, rhythmic and bass line across the ensemble.

Cello 2 and the Double Bass need to create the momentum by driving their lines in unison. The pizzicato always needs to be light and crisp.
