Description

Kaleidoscope Suite for Brass and Timpani

This work is in three sections:
The opening section begins with a grand Maestoso. This introduction is bold and should be played in the style of a fanfare. This leads to the Moderato which really needs to be performed at the indicated tempo marking. In doing so, the colours and musical lines can be fully blended and the energy of the Moderato maintained.

There are some rhythmic and articulation challenges so always keep the staccato short and crisp and the dynamics need to be played as written for the perfect balance.

The middle section is an Andante and is more hymn like in style. This section, although well articulated, requires a sense of legato and cantabile. The repeat can be played with different dynamics to contrast at the discretion of the leader or conductor of the ensemble.

The Spiritoso section is by far the most challenging movement of Kaleidoscope. The changing rhythms and syncopation will provide excitement for all players. Once again the dynamics and articulation patterns are important to the success of this section. Always play with a bright and clear tone across the ensemble which allow the colours of the ensemble to be realized in each part.

Enjoy!
