Ende des Flusses (Rivers End) for String Quartet

Ende des Flusses (Rivers End) is a short descriptive work reflecting the journey of a river working its way to the sea.

The work is primarily in E minor and begins at Lento tempo in 3/4 time. There is a shift to 6/8 time where agility around the ensemble must always be maintained.

The articulation is important as this helps to create the imagery of the river’s journey through rapids etc. Accents and expressive marks must be adhered to by all players.

Keep the middle section moving along until the brief return to the Lento section in the coda.

There is a 3rd Violin part covering the Viola line to assist young ensembles who may not have a violist.
